Why did the client want/need to undertake this project? The owner’s circa 1860 two-story home which once housed their business, transitioned to a family home, was now ready for the next generation. The small kitchen was not functional. To reclaim the first floor functionality an open floor plan was designed, the kitchen was overhauled and expanded, and the parlor was updated to include a bedroom, bath and shower. The main living space was moved from the parlor to the original, inaccessible living room – which is now open to the dining and kitchen space. The cold cellar and cellar access were refinished. The space is now used as a wine cellar.
