Whole House Remodel
Why did the client want/need to undertake this project? The client loved the location of their new home but wanted to remodel the interior and enlarge the kitchen, bringing everything up to date with modern appliances and fixtures.
Describe the solution to the client's need and how it was achieved during the planning stage, noting space/budget limitations. To match the homeowners' style, It was necessary to strip-down the interior and start with a clean palette. All flooring was sanded down and re-stained. Lighting, plumbing fixtures and interior finishes were redone throughout including granite tops and herringbone tile back-splashes. An addition with a cathedral wood plank ceiling was created to enlarge the kitchen area to accommodate a large island, commercial grade appliances, built-in banquette, coffee bar and more cabinetry storage. For additional storage, a mudroom with built-in storage and cubbies was created. To modernize the flow, openings between rooms were enlarged and the foyer and hallway were enhanced with raised wood panels. The current fireplace was updated with custom trim work, wood mantle and marble hearth and surround. Being an older home, energy-efficient windows were installed throughout the home and smaller bathrooms were enlarged by utilizing and relocating closets from bedrooms.
Were there any particular challenges faced during the remodeling process? The owners wanted to keep vintage stained glass windows in the master bath, so careful layout planning was necessary as well as selecting tile and granite to compliment it.
