Remodeling Project

Why did the client want/need to undertake this project?

The clients desired a new entertaining area in their basement, that would feature a grand foyer-like entrance and all necessities so guests would never need to access the other floors of the home. The new space was to reflect an elegance and style that would make you forget you were in a basement.

Describe the solution to the client's need and how it was achieved during the planning stage, noting space/budget limitations.

The 2,400 sq ft basement was finished, but the client's wish list for the remodel: a grand entrance from the pool deck, a bar area with appliances, a multi-media gaming area, a climate controlled 340 bottle wine display, a spa bathroom with a walk-in steam shower, 5 person sauna, and hair cutting studio, a guest bedroom, and update the existing laundry, powder room, and exercise area. The audio system was installed throughout the entire basement including inside the steam shower and sauna. All lighting and sound equipment is controlled by voice recognition. A custom designed waterfall granite bar seats 8 people and a second bar overlooking the media room that seats 5, offer many places for guests to socialize. Adjacent to the guest bedroom is a one-of-a-kind contemporary bathroom. The oversized walk-in steam shower has a heated seat and glass surround. Located next to that is a five man, built-in, cedar sauna. And finally, a hair studio features a large full-length mirror, custom cabinetry, salon chair and baseboard vacuum to collect hair trimmings.

Were there any particular challenges faced during the remodeling process?

Challenges included careful timing of tradesmen due to the amount of custom handmade work done on-site.
